HISTORY

STX is a 3rd generation family-owned trucking company located in Andover, NY. Trucking in the Mills family can be traced back to 1907, when John Jacob Mills bought his first truck and used it to transport vegetables from West Norwood, NJ, to Nyack, NY. From that point on, the family farming business relied heavily on trucking to transport countless commodities for the Mills family as well as for other farmers in the community.

As the demand for trucking services increased, Mills Transport was formed. This new company serviced a variety of industries, transporting sand, gravel, road salt, and flatbed commodities. In 1987, Mills Transport became Southern Tier Express, Inc.—a flatbed carrier dedicated to servicing the many local manufacturing facilities in Western New York.

Today, STX has grown into a highly specialized transportation company that boasts 100 power units and 300 trailers, ranging from standard flatbeds to 19-axle heavy hauls. The Mills family’s strong history in the trucking industry has helped STX become one of the nation’s leading transportation companies, eagerly tackling today’s most challenging moves.

SAFETY

Safety is of paramount concern to us at STX. We believe that safety comes from having the experience, knowledge, and equipment to do things the right way. Our complete understanding of what it takes to perform a task and our ability to execute flawlessly according to plan means that the job will be done safely and efficiently.

We also believe that well-maintained equipment is essential to a safe move. With our own fully and expertly staffed repair facility, we have the ability to maintain, fix, or rebuild any part of our equipment in house. That way, we know it’s done correctly, and we save on downtime and avoid safety issues.

WHAT STX CUSTOMERS SAY

STX has been an important part of our logistics activities for 15+ years. The dispatch office is very responsive, as is the office staff, which assist with any questions needing answered. Goods are handled with care and requests for “air-ride” equipment and flatbed tarping are never an issue. On-time performance is also very good with needed timelines met.
